Military Benefits

Assisting veterans with benefits, claims

2015-10-07

On Saturday, Sept. 19, Armed Forces Mutual teamed up with Disabled American Veterans (DAV) to host its fifth annual Mobile Service Office in Reston, where together the two organizations assisted 100 military veterans with Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) benefits coordination and claims. Ten DAV National Service Officers were at Armed Forces Mutual’s office to guide the attending veterans through VA processes in one-on-one, time unlimited sessions.

The services that DAV provided at Armed Forces Mutual’s offices on Old Reston Avenue were at no cost to the veterans that attended. All veterans were welcome to the event, which lasted from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on a clear September day.

Chartered in 1879, Armed Forces Mutual is the longest-standing non-profit financial solutions provider exclusively for current and former members of the American Armed Forces, as well as their immediate families. The association provides life insurance, wealth management and survivor assistance services to its members.

DAV is also a nonprofit organization and has been assisting disabled American Armed Forces veterans since the 1920s. The organization regularly sets up Mobile Service Offices so that veterans can seek out help with VA claims, benefits and entitlements without having to travel to the Regional Offices.

The Mobile Service Offices are typically held in DAV vans, so the annual event at Armed Forces Mutual’s Reston office is a bigger, better-attended event than most.

“The DAV MSO hosted by Armed Forces Mutual normally draws a larger crowd due to outreach to memberships of both organizations and targeted marketing efforts from both Armed Forces Mutual and DAV,” Jodee Neumann, Team Leader of Benefits Coordination at Armed Forces Mutual, said. “This year we served 100 veterans with benefit consultation and claims assistance.”

Both organizations look forward to continued partnership with future DAV Mobile Service Offices and in day to day business.
